Painted mostly in oils but with an acrylic ground and sketch. Finding a decent photograph as reference to work from was difficult, ampoule the BBC lighting in 1995 was rather flat and not as good as present standards for lighting and picture resolution which made the task of finding a good screen grab and painting a decent likeness a challenge. I’ve tried to give the painting a fairly traditional 19th century style and feel which suits the subject, A sort of cross between Ingres and J S Sargent. I hope I pulled it off enough to satisfy all those Colin Firth as Mr Darcy fans out there.
Oil colours used: Ivory Black, Yellow Ochre, Cadmium Red, Raw Sienna (Glazes), Burnt Sienna, Mixing White.
Acrylic Ground and sketch: Burnt Umber + Raw Sienna
Oil on Smooth gessoed board, 20″ x 16″
